Space Ranger by SteamPoweredMikeJ Space Ranger by SteamPoweredMikeJ
For the adventure "Battle Between The Worlds", written and published by Johnstone Metzger for the Dungeon World RPG.

Johnstone wanted something with a 'pulp sci-fi' look, which was a lot of fun to design!

Oh, man, this makes me excitebike. And it's even cleaner than your older stuff! Please, keep up the good work!

Thanks so much! One of the things I really enjoy about using grey scale shading in Photoshop, is it lets me ditch all the busy cross-hatching I had to rely on to give things shape. Cleaner lines, smoother shapes, and a lot more options for 'lighting'.

Indeed it has. I did like how you cross-hatched, though, but I could see how it was a bit of a... erm, crutch...

The cross-hatching was the best we could do with the limitations of the printing technology of the times, and I'm very fond of the drawings I did where it really clicked... But there's a lot of times when I tried to do darker, moodier lighting, and it just turned into ugly noise. So I'm glad 21st century printing can handle nice smooth grayscales!
