When Gravity Fails by SteamPoweredMikeJ When Gravity Fails by SteamPoweredMikeJ
The genesis of this one is mysterious. What I *remember* is drawing it as an interpretation (perhaps for the Cyberpunk game?) of George Alec Effinger's "When Gravity Fails". And the signature says it was from 1991. But it was published in a Cyberpunk book from R. Talsorian Games that had no relation to that, called "Listen Up You Primitive Screwheads!!!!", published in 1994. I suspect it was originally for a book that either was never printed, or that I just don't have a copy of and have forgotten...

I always figured that it was a "When Gravity Fails" tribute, a wink in the GM's book for those of us who had done our reading research. I always loved how the somber gentlemen on the left is almost checking out the attractive girl on the right, like he wanted to look but felt a little guilty about it. It made the scene feel very real.

Thanks! It's funny, I always tried to have something happen in every corner of every drawing, originally just to keep from getting bored. But I quickly found that what I really loved was creating full-fledged scenes. Those full-pagers were great for that!

I'm no where near good enough to do full scenes yet, but it's a goal. I agree, I love how they can set the tone and mood of an entire place in a single (large) frame. A book can spend a chapter or three describing a scene, especially in a game manual, but a single art piece truly drive the point home. :)

R. Talsorian later did publish "When Gravity Fails" as an alternative setting. I wish I could check if they re-used the image, but I don't have the book anymore.

Okay, good to know my memory isn't totally off! It was always one of my favourite cyberpunk novels, so I was quite thrilled to get to do that drawing...

Wasn't it published in a shadowrun 4th Edition book, too?

Nope, it's not in GSB. But I have seen it in some SR book, I'm pretty sure ...

Not sure. I maybe was in the English Germany sourcebook from 2E though ... it kind of looks familiar. I'll check ...

Can't point it to a page or a book. Only that it was in shadowrun. Maybe 3rd or 4th Edition. That could be possible :-)
