Woahhhh, to see this picture here in you gallery makes me feel nostalgic. It was a stong visual of my roleplaying youth and this sourcebook one of my favorites. Great to see the artist who did this decades ago here on daviantart. I love your drawings!
I don;t know how to use photoshop... I did it in Corel Photo-paint... I don't know how to use layers, or any thing like that... it was one fill at a time, manually closing gaps, took me all day,but it was fun. Really the only thing that made it possible was the size of the image and your incredibly clean line work. Thanks for letting me do it and share it with you.
Give any thought to letting me use your works on my Cyberpunk site, Datafortress 2020? [link]
There may be some copyright issues there. I always made sure my contracts gave me the right to display my work in galleries, books and collections devoted to my body of work (like this gallery on DeviantArt), but beyond that it can get muddy... especially because the Wold Wide Web didn't exist when any of the contracts were written.
All I can say is - as long as you aren't making money off my work, or reprinting it in physical books, I have no problem with you using a few drawings. But that's *me*. Someone else might own the copyrights to these properties now. They might not care at all, they might send you a take-down notice, they might even sue. It's the wild west of long dead corporations and their zombie lawyers...
You humble me sir. Thanks so much for the kind words, and I'm really glad you enjoy my work! Of all the games I did art for, Cyberpunk was easily the one I played the most (with Traveller a close second).
I would *love* to see a color version of this! Please share!
I may give it another shot... my computer isn't quite as crappy now as it was back then.
I would very much like to ask if you would grant me permission to use your artwork for my Cyberpunk 2020 site, Datafortress 2020, in future sourcebooks and articles. All the pieces you did that never saw print, or only saw print in Challenge (I have a pdf of every cyberpunk issue, been trying to get ahold of the people behind it for years to ask if I can put them up on my site) deserve to be viewed in context.
Oh wow! I think most of the drawings I did for that book are kind of so-so, but I did feel like I'd crossed a threshold with this one. If I'd done it even a year later though, there would've been a lot more shape to it, and more confident use of blacks. Shadows on the police spinner, maybe some tone on the central rooftop...
Oh sure, there's always a list of "if only" tweaks we all have, hm? But this is a really solid work. And yeah, that Spinner-type vehicle is just uber cool. I probably like it better than Syd's It'd be neat to see you go back and colorize this puppy! (hint-hint, nudge-nudge)
